Gary's three principal academic qualifications are from the University of Otago in Sports Medicine, Physical Education and Rehabilitation. In more recent years, his interests have been in natural therapiesand healing. He has completed three industry training and certification programmes with Kordel's,thompson's Nutrition and Nutra-Life Lyd . He has over 30 years of full-time hands-on experience working within hospital and rehabilitation centres; and as a professional advisor to coaches and athletes about injury management and high performance conditioning issues. He is currently a member of the Strategic Reference Group that has helped develop the New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy.
He has written many educational publications, including the following more substantial efforts that have been published as books or booklets:
- "Hypothermia in Sport" published by ACC
- "Warm-up and Stretching" guidelines for Sports, published by ACC
- "Back Pain – Prevention and Treatment" published by GP Print
- Gary is a regular presenter to groups such as cancer survivors and the elderly on subjects relating to recovery, nutrition health and lifestyle factors
Gary is an accomplished endurance athlete, with a competitive career spanning some 30 years. He is the older brother of Olympic Marathon medallist and professional sports coach, Lorraine Moller. Sports that he has seriously contested are running, multisport, road cycling and mountain biking.
With his partner, Alofa, he has four children of Samoan and Cook Islands lineage.
